What is accessibility?
Accessibility is the quality of something to be used or known without a user's limitations being a barrier. These limitations may be due to physical, technological or structural causes.
A tool is accessible when the user does not need to have, permanently or temporarily, a certain level of intelligence, hearing, vision, mobility or memorisation capacity.
CaixaBank's social commitment to accessibility is reflected in different areas:
Branch accessibility
Elimination of barriers (Level Zero) and making face-to-face contact easier.
ATM accessibility
We are striving to adapt all ATM operations to offer the highest level of accessibility.
Online accessibility
We comply with the recommendations issued by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI).
Accessibility and the Obra Social Welfare Programme
We design all our website pages in an accessible way.

Obra Social also promotes the values defined by good accessibility.
ATM accessibility
The adaptation of ATMs is a key component of accessibility at CaixaBank.
CaixaBank has been making a great effort to adapt all ATM operations to offer the highest level of accessibility.
In 2006, it signed up to the proposal for ATM accessibility regulations prepared by the Barcelona Digital Foundation.
An increasing number of CaixaBank ATMs offer accessibility features such as: high contrast, information videos in sign language, voice-guided options for people with visual impairments, simple menus, etc.
Online accessibility
Internet accessibility or website accessibility is based on the recommendations issued by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI), created by the international consortium World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
CaixaBank websites apply accessibility level AA guidelines. And we continue to work on improving accessibility even more.
In compliance with these requirements, web standards have been applied in the construction of its web pages using HTML for the content and CSS for the layout. For example, we've introduced:
- New window notifications.
- Format change notifications.
- Scalable font size.
- Alternative text for images.
- Spoken web browser access.
- Use of style sheets to control layout and presentation.
- Use of header elements to convey logical page structure.
- Metadata to add semantic information.
