• More security in your payment operations: As explained in the section on PSD2: How does it affect you?, from September 14, security has been strengthened for accessing your online banking and payment transactions.

  • More transparency: Information will be displayed clearly on products and product packaging, indicating the separate purchase of products, in addition to the costs and fees associated with each product or service. In addition, banking institutions are required to provide the Bank of Spain with information about the most common services and the corresponding fees. In the future, the Bank of Spain website is expected to enable users to compare these fees.

  • More powers: you can withdraw your authorisation for direct debit payments (bills) to be charged to your account before they are received by your bank. Likewise, if you do not agree with a specific charge to your account, you can request to return the bill unconditionally within 8 weeks from the date of the charge. Furthermore, if you think that you did not authorise an account transaction, you can request that it be returned within 13 months from the payment date. We will deposit the amount into your account and analyse whether the payment was authorised. If the payment is found to have been unauthorised, the refund will be confirmed.

  • More freedom: you can manage your payment account and perform transactions not only through your bank's online banking service but also through financial aggregators (apps that combine information from various banks). Your bank may also let you add account information from your other banks to its online banking platform.

  • More efficiency: any claims related to payment services that you submit to the bank will be answered within 15 business days.

  • More mobility: customers can exercise their right to transfer a payment account from one service provider to another for free, by completing a form. This transfer will include all the necessary information for the transfer, including standing orders, transfers and debits, incoming and issued transfers to the original payment account, and all the funds. A payment account transfer may only be refused in specific cases, for example, if the customer has payable and outstanding payment obligations.
