Fake online lenders

When easy money turns into a trap.

Irresistible offers that can turn out to be scams

In times of financial difficulty, receiving an offer for fast cash might seem like the perfect solution. But that’s exactly when fraudsters strike—posing as legitimate lenders and luring victims in with conditions that are too good to be true.

Learn how to spot their tactics and protect your financial decisions like a good detective would: by paying attention to the details and not rushing in.

How does a fake lender operate?

0
Offers that are too good to be true

They advertise loans on social media or websites with very low interest rates and easy conditions, aiming to quickly catch attention.

1
Requests for advance payments

Once the victim shows interest, they ask for an initial payment for supposed administrative fees or commissions. They promise the money will follow… but it never does. Instead, new excuses arise to ask for more payments.

2
Pressure and a sense of urgency

They pressure the victim to decide quickly, not allowing time to verify the information. They may even request personal or banking details, such as ID numbers or online banking credentials.

3
Communication interrupted

Once the victim starts to suspect something or stops making payments, the fraudster disappears without a trace.

Warning signals you shouldn't ignore

Unrealistic promises

Loans with conditions that are far from market standards are very likely a scam.

Payments in advance

A trustworthy lender will never ask you for money before granting the loan.

Excessive pressure

If you’re being rushed to make quick decisions, be wary.

Lack of information

Companies with no registered address, legal registration, or clear contact details may not actually exist.

Keys to protecting yourself against these scams

Always verify the lender

Make sure the company exists, is registered and is licensed to operate.
Look for reviews and ratings.

Don't pay in advance

Be wary of any request for money before receiving the loan.

Protect your personal details

Never share sensitive information with unknown contacts or companies.

Do you think you may have been a victim of a scam?

Scams are often disguised as emergencies or threats. Be especially wary of any urgent requests for details or payments.

Keep calm, use your common sense, and if you think you might be a victim of fraud, get in touch with CaixaBank immediately through the official channels: Wall or by calling 938 87 25 25.
